I’m Saved – now what?.....
It is a common thing these days to hear the word “Come to Jesus Chris for a better life”. This in fact is the complete opposite of the Christian walk!
The Christian walk is a walk of obedience, love and worship
to Jesus Christ. The Word says in John
8:31-32 “...“If
you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and
you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” This is a very important scripture to answer
the question I am saved, now what? Many people today profess Jesus
Christ as
their Lord and Saviour but the fruit being displayed is that of the
world (not characters of Christ, see (Galatians 5:19-21). Many
do not abide in His word and many have not been set free by the truth.
Jesus
Christ preached a very familiar message throughout the gospels; the
continuing
message was “Repent” “Stop Sinning” and find life in Him. For those who
find
true life in Him, are satisfied in Him and Him alone. This is why the
disciples
could preach they way they did. When arrested and threatened, they
continued to
speak about Christ and exalting His name, when they were imprisoned,
they spoke
and exalted His name, when whipped, they praised His name and yes, even
to the
end – Christ was glorified – when they were martyred. Jesus said “...If anyone would come after
me, let him deny himself and take up his
cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23
This is a daily thing! Are we daily
denying the flesh of its lustful passions? Are we daily suffering as
Christ
suffered? (being mistreated, being alone and mocked because of our stand
with
Him), are we praying daily?, are we daily feeding on the word? All these
things; we are to do. We are to do as our teacher did, and He was our
example that is what
a disciple does!
Often in today’s Christian culture,
many do not abide with Jesus; many do not spend time in prayer, in daily
communion with the Saviour. Though they profess Christ, but does Christ know
them?
It is important to remember the words found in Matthew 7:21-23
"Not everyone who says to
me, ‘Lord,
Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will
of my
Father who is in heaven. On
that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your
name,
and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your
name?’
And then will I declare to them, ‘I never
knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” Are we living based on our works? Or our
relationship with Christ?
So again, we ask the question, “I
am saved - now what?” Here is an answer- Reflect? Are we living an
authentic
Christian walk with Jesus? Can we truly agree with Paul, when he said
“Indeed,
I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing
Christ
Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and
count
them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” Philippians 3:8
The “now
what” is a time to examine our hearts. For
us to be in prayer and line our hearts up and declare that we want clean
hands
and a pure heart (He who has clean
hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up
his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He
will receive blessing from the Lord and
righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is
the generation
of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob Psalm
24:4-6), it
is a time to examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith (2
Corinthians
13:5), it is a time strive to walk in the ways of Jesus Christ, more
passionately
and more intimately than ever before.
What is the
result? You will have a desire to preach
the gospel of Jesus Christ, you will loudly proclaim “all for His glory
and our
joy”. You will have a desire to attend a local church with like minded
believers, you will have a desire to serve and be a doer of the word and
not
just a hearer only.
So, as habit
arises to repeat oneself, “I am saved,
now what?” Live a sold out life for Jesus Christ and lay your life down
to be
used for Him. If you are neglecting attending church, get locked in. If
you
need to confess un confessed sin, get started today and do not delay. If
you
are not sure if you are even saved, please got to our “how do I
know I am saved”
